- Abstract
Irregular menstruation is a prevalent health issue among adolescent females, particularly those residing in Islamic boarding schools. Such menstrual irregularities can adversely impact both physical and emotional well-being, potentially affecting academic performance. Therefore, identifying effective non-pharmacological interventions to address this concern is of considerable importance. One promising approach is stretching, which is believed to enhance blood circulation and support hormonal regulation. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of regular stretching exercises in improving menstrual cycle regularity among female students. A quasi-experimental research design was employed, utilizing a pre-test and post-test approach. The study population consisted of students who reported experiencing irregular menstrual cycles. Participants were divided into two groups: an intervention group that engaged in routine stretching exercises and a control group that did not receive any intervention. Menstrual regularity data were collected over a one-month period using structured questionnaires and menstrual diaries. Data analysis included univariate analysis using frequency distributions, bivariate analysis via the Mann–Whitney U test, and multivariate analysis using linear regression, all performed with SPSS software. The results of the Mann–Whitney U test revealed a statistically significant difference between the control and intervention groups (p = 0.000, α < 0.05), indicating that stretching exercises had a positive effect on menstrual cycle regularity. These findings suggest that regular stretching is an effective non-pharmacological strategy for promoting menstrual regularity in adolescent females.
