Abstract

Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) is found in 1% to 2% of the general relationship, and it has overlapped with other personality disorders to a great extent. Hence, the definitions and research on BPD are more comprehensive after the Alternative DSM-5 Model for Personality Disorders (AMPD) and International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (11th ed.; ICD-11) published, yet more studies are needed to understand the long-term impacts of people with NPD. Within the paper, the negative influences of NPD people that would be exposed to themselves and others are going to be discussed. More specifically, the discussion is mainly under two aspects: emotional and interpersonal relationship issues that NPD might cause, including their suffering from reactive depression and implicit shame; the negative tactics they are going to utilise in their parenthood (e.g., maltreatment and scapegoating); also, the possible intimate partner violence behaviours. Literature is reviewed and various experiments are analysed, to conclude the negative outcomes. In sum, people with NPD can hardly deal with their issues and can cause people around them to suffer from psychopathological symptoms (e.g., depression). Hence, further studies are necessary to dive deeper into diverse populations to improve the generalizability of the current understanding of NPD people.
