- Abstract
Driven by all the global climate governance and the “double carbon” goals pushing things forward, green finance, as an important tool for driving the low-carbon economic transition has increasingly attracted attention for its intrinsic connection with the development of the low-carbon economy. Employing panel data from 30 provincial administrative regions in China spanning 2012 to 2022, this study empirically examines the effects and mechanisms of green finance on low-carbon economic development. The findings indicate that green finance significantly facilitates low-carbon economic development by providing financial support and driving green technological innovation, presenting an unbalanced spatial pattern characterized by “strong in the central region and weak in the east and west”. To leverage the role of green finance in driving the development of the innovation of green financial products and services, to establish a regional joint development mechanism, enhance support for low-carbon technology R&D, and accelerate the green transformation of traditional industries.
