Abstract

Bus lanes have been proven to be beneficial for improving urban traffic efficiency. This policy ensures stable public transportation services, achieves a fair distribution of urban road resources, maximizes road utilization efficiency, and reduces disadvantages faced by vulnerable groups. These factors are essential for sustainable public transportation development and social equity. Domestic cities have experienced declining bus passenger flow in recent years. Compared with 2014, some cities have experienced a decline of more than 50%. Consequently, many public transportation operators reduced bus frequencies to cut costs and losses. This has led to decreased usage of exclusive bus lanes and reduced passenger numbers, sparking social debates. In response to public concerns, some cities have shortened bus lane usage times or even canceled them altogether. This study analyzes the existing problems and foreign experience of bus lanes, and then proposes suggestions for more refined development. These include diverse forms, adjusted setting conditions, clarified legal status, implementation effect assessments, and dynamic urban resource allocation adjustments.
