- Abstract
The purpose of this qualitative study is to investigate the effect of anime content and Comic-Con participation on young students’ academic interests, learning motivation, and social behavior. Drawing upon grounded theory methodology, the research analyzes data collected from semi-structured interviews with secondary and university students aged 12–24. The findings of this study acknowledge that anime content promotes foreign language learning—especially Japanese—and reinforces interest in art, science, and cultural studies. Moreover, Comic-Con events serve as vital social platforms: they enhance participants’ skills, confidence, and career awareness. The study—however—also identifies challenges: academic procrastination owing to excessive anime consumption; the commercialization of Comic-Con culture influencing youth consumption behaviors. The research not only concludes that anime culture’s impact is multifaceted and varies depending on individual characteristics, time management skills, and socio-cultural backgrounds, but also provides practical insights for integrating anime culture into education (while mitigating its possible drawbacks).
