- Abstract
In recent years, all-female bands have gained renewed visibility in both Western and Japanese music industries, yet their commercialisation strategies differ significantly. This study examines how these bands operate under two distinct models: the Western model, built on album sales, touring, and social media marketing; and Japan’s media-mix model, which integrates music, anime, games, and merchandise into multi-platform franchises. Through comparative analysis and quantitative engagement metrics, the research evaluates the adaptability and sustainability of each model in a rapidly evolving digital landscape. Findings indicate that while Western bands often struggle with revenue instability and intense competition, Japanese bands benefit from structured cross-media strategies, though they face challenges in global expansion. Overall, the study concludes that the hybrid evolution of the media-mix model—blending live performance with digital engagement offers a more resilient path for the future of all-female bands.
