- Abstract
Under the background of media society, as one of the important infrastructure of media society, search engine algorithm logic determines the visibility of public information and the right to be forgotten, which determines or weakens digital memory. From the perspective of communication, this paper combines the theory of media and platform society into the analysis of the right to be forgotten. On the basis of investigating the legitimacy of the right, this paper explains its public recognition under the dual influence of the digital age and media platform, and then clarifies the operation rules of the right to be forgotten from the perspective of law. It also proposes that the communication ethics and platform governance in communication should be included in the functional value orientation of the right to be forgotten, so as to alleviate the conflict and contradiction between personal privacy and the free flow of public information.
