Abstract

Climate change is one of the most important discussions that is currently going on globally. The rapid growth of Artificial Intelligence has led to the introduction of both new opportunities and challenges, especially ethical issues, while addressing climate change. The present paper is an attempt to explore the role and importance of ethical Artificial Intelligence in accelerating concerns regarding climate change, while keeping a focus on overcoming a gap between formulation of policies and its implementation in real world. Climate mitigation and adaptation can be solved through innovations using ethical AI which not only provides priority to fairness and transparency but also solves accountability and sustainability. In today’s world it is very important to align AI systems with broader environmental, governance and social goals. The present research examines prevalent AI applications under climate science, climate management, disaster management, climate action along with their ethical aspects. It also highlights the role of policy drafters along with interdisciplinary collaboration, cooperation and ethical regulatory measures. There are a lot of challenges relating to ethical AI including data privacy, global equity and algorithm bias. The research argues that ethical AI climate action is vital to ensure technological advancements for serving long term climate goals. Integrating ethical AI with climate action can accelerate safeguarding rights and needs of the future generations. There should be adequate policy and procedure to ensure AI is used with ethics while establishing sustainable development and climate resilience.
