Abstract

Student welfare in the Elementary School Teacher Education (PGSD) ensures their academic success and personal development during the study period. This research aims to explore the perception of PGSD students towards their well-being, focusing on the balance between academic and personal life. Through a qualitative phenomenological approach, data were collected from 22 PGSD students at Semarang State University through semi-structured interviews. This interview focuses on the factors that students think affect their well-being, both in the academic environment and outside the university. Data analysis uses thematic analysis methods with open coding to identify key themes that emerge from student perceptions. The study results show that various factors influence student welfare, including social support from family and friends, a conducive learning environment, a balanced academic load, and effective time management skills. Additionally, students revealed that academic pressure, lack of emotional support, and the demands of life outside of study contribute to higher levels of stress, which affects their overall well-being. This research emphasizes the importance of a holistic approach in supporting student welfare, where educational institutions are expected to pay attention to academic achievement and personal and off-campus environmental factors that affect students’ lives. By understanding the student's perspective, institutions can design more relevant and effective support programs, creating a learning environment conducive to their well-being. These findings contribute to the literature on student welfare in teacher education and provide practical implications for students teacher education.
