- Abstract
Mathematical modelling is a promising approach because it directly applies mathematics in solving daily life problems. The purpose of this study is to design mathematical modelling tasks on fractions and ratios. This research is an educational design research type development studies consisting of three stages, such as preliminary stage, formative evaluation or development stage, and assessment stage. However, this research only reached the formative evaluation or development stage. Data analysis techniques were carried out qualitatively on questionnaire sheets, expert comments/suggestions, student work and student interviews. The results showed that the math tasks on fractions and ratios that had been designed had valid and practical characteristics. Providing mathematical modelling activities into students’ mathematics learning and assessment is important to continue, as an effort to improve the quality of mathematics learning and also to develop students’ mathematical modelling competencies. In addition, improving students’ mathematical modelling competence is tantamount to improving students’ mathematical literacy.
