Abstract

One of the duties and responsibilities of parents is to provide care for their children. In carrying out parenting, the characteristics of the child, the characteristics of the parents, and other factors determine the parenting style itself. One example is parents who apply a permissive parenting style, as this style will impact the child's characteristics. For parents, raising children is a unique challenge, including for those raising Generation Z children who are highly connected to technology. One study shows that the self-confidence of Generation Z is still considered moderate and needs to be improved (Nabilla & Salim, 2023). Self-confidence is a feeling or belief an individual has about themselves, allowing them to feel secure and not anxious. This study aims to examine the relationship between permissive parenting styles and the self-confidence of Generation Z. The type of research used in this study is quantitative correlational, with purposive sampling techniques and two measurement tools: the Permissive Parenting Style Scale developed by Gracia (2022), and the Personal Evaluation Inventory, which has been translated into Indonesian by Angela (2023). The subjects of this study consist of 386 Generation Z individuals classified as late adolescents, aged between 17 and 20 years. All the data collected were analyzed using SPSS. The result found that permissive parenting style has a positive and significant relationship with the self-confidence of Generation Z, with a correlation coefficient of 0.689 and a significance value of < 0.001.
