Abstract

Korean Wave or Hallyu has become a global phenomenon that influences many aspects of culture, including music, fashion, and fan behavior. Monstiez, the fandom name of K-Pop group BABYMONSTER under YG Entertainment, plays a significant role in promoting information about the group through interactions in WhatsApp Groups. The existence of opinion leaders in the fandom serves as the main driver that influences the views and behavior of fandom members. The purpose of this study is to analyze the role of Monstiez fandom opinion leaders in discussing BABYMONSTER in WhatsApp groups. This study uses opinion leader theory to explore the role of opinion leaders in the Monstiez fandom by identifying their roles, levels, and characteristics in WhatsApp groups. This research approach uses qualitative with a case study method to analyze the role of Monstiez fandom opinion leaders in discussing BABYMONSTER in WhatsApp groups. The results of this study are that opinion leaders in the Monstiez fandom play an important role in shaping opinions by spreading accurate information, forming discussions, and encouraging member participation, which ultimately strengthens the community and supports BABYMONSTER.
