Abstract

After the Government of Malaysia amended the Penal Code, the Anti-Stalking Law came into effect on May 31st, 2023. The provision allows the victim to seek protection from the stalker, including having them charged in Court. This applies to online and physical stalking. Although Malaysians embrace the new law, there are still tests to be done on how well it is understood and implemented. Under the heading of “Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all, and build effective, accountable, and inclusive institutions at all levels,” this new law may also advance the 16th Sustainable Development Goal of the UN. The purpose of this essay is to analyse the outcome of the recently enacted legislation. As a result, the researchers will compare the decided case laws with the existing laws from neighbouring countries. Public awareness of the recently enacted law, particularly on the victim, is also included in the discussion. Ultimately, the research acknowledges the law and advocates for policies and guidelines to enhance the robustness of the newly enacted law.
