- Abstract
Cancer continues to pose a considerable global health challenge, as traditional therapies such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy are frequently constrained by drug resistance and detrimental side effects. Natural compounds such as chalcones have attracted interest for their potential as anticancer agents owing to their selective cytotoxicity. The chemical structure of chalcones can be readily modified to improve their biological activity. Chalcone derivatives exhibit anticancer properties via various mechanisms, such as apoptosis induction, reactive oxygen species generation, mitochondrial dysfunction, tubulin inhibition, and transcription factor modulation. Despite the increasing amount of research on chalcone derivatives, a comprehensive bibliometric analysis assessing research trends, hotspots, and international collaborations in this field is yet to be conducted. This study fills the gap by examining 1,269 articles from the Scopus database utilizing the keywords “chalcone derivatives” and “anticancer”. The data were analyzed using VOSviewer and Biblioshiny (RStudio) to investigate publication trends, keyword mapping, prolific journals, countries, institutions, and authors, also collaboration networks. Additionally, this study briefly reviews the synthetic approaches and mechanisms underlying the anticancer activity of chalcone derivatives. These findings aim to direct future research trends and enhance innovations in the development of chalcone-based anticancer therapies.
