Abstract

With the deepening of educational reforms, curriculum-based ideological and political education has become an essential component of higher education, gradually integrating into the teaching of various specialized courses. This paper takes the course “Basic Principles and Design of Steel Structures” as an example and uses civil engineering classes at the author’s university as the subject of practice to explore the integration of ideological and political education into specialized course teaching. By analyzing the connotation and importance of curriculum-based ideological and political education and combining the characteristics of the steel structures course, the paper proposes methods for identifying ideological and political elements and strategies for their integration. The study employed a “three-stage, five-step, integrated” teaching model for implementation and evaluated its effectiveness. The results show that integrating ideological and political education into specialized course teaching not only enhances students’ professional knowledge but also cultivates their patriotic sentiments, social responsibility, and professional ethics, providing an effective approach for nurturing well-rounded civil engineering talents with both moral integrity and professional competence.
