Abstract

With the diversification of university library functions, their significance in meeting students’ varied learning needs has become increasingly prominent. This study aims to investigate the satisfaction of Chinese college students with university libraries, with a particular focus on the impact of gender and educational level on library satisfaction. Through an online questionnaire, the study found that students’ satisfaction with hygiene and amenities, security and service mechanisms, as well as user behavior and feedback, was relatively low. No significant gender differences were observed across various dimensions of satisfaction. However, educational background significantly influenced satisfaction with infrastructure and resource provision, as well as hygiene and amenities. Moreover, students of different educational levels and genders exhibited distinct preferences in library seating choices. Drawing on a summary of previous research and an analysis of the survey findings, this paper offers targeted suggestions for university libraries regarding environmental and facility improvements, in order to enhance the student experience and create a more comfortable learning environment.
