Abstract

This paper proposes an Outcome-Based Education (OBE)-driven teaching strategy for power system courses, termed “Virtual-Physical Mapping and Closed-Loop Empowerment,” with PSCAD as the core simulation platform. The strategy establishes a precise mapping among “theoretical knowledge points—simulation tasks—competency indicators” and forms a four-loop closed system: “definition-practice-assessment-iteration.” Focusing on case-based teaching, it guides students to construct circular, quadrilateral, and hexagonal relay models, comparing their operational characteristics under transition resistance (TR) influence. Experimental data from electrical engineering students at Guangzhou City University of Science and Technology show that the strategy significantly enhances understanding of fault mechanisms, modeling capabilities, and engineering problem-solving skills. This study provides a replicable model for integrating power system simulation software into curricula.
