Abstract

Against the backdrop of China’s vigorous promotion of a strong manufacturing country and industrial structure optimization, application-oriented universities—core bases for cultivating high-quality applied talents—are crucial. Whether their talents have the spirit of craftsmanship directly affects regional economic development quality and industrial competitiveness. However, current cultivation of this spirit in such universities faces challenges: singular training subjects, insufficient school-enterprise collaboration, loose policy-market connection, and weak cultural infiltration, failing to meet society’s demand for high-quality applied talents. This paper uses the quad-helix theory (universities, enterprises, government, society) as an analytical framework, adopts literature research, questionnaires, and case analysis to explore the quad-helix subjects’ role positioning and collaborative mechanism in cultivating the spirit of craftsmanship, and proposes a “curriculum-practice-policy-culture” four-in-one path for application-oriented universities. This study enriches theoretical research on craftsmanship spirit cultivation, provides practical references for optimizing applied university talent cultivation, and offers new ideas for promoting quad-helix collaboration in higher education and aiding a strong manufacturing country.
