- Abstract
The latest advances in cognitive science have had a meaningful impact on the design and implementation of e-learning systems. Cognitive data processing models and emerging cognitive models, which are fundamental elements in cognitive science, are essential tools for understanding and modeling human cognition, as well as for designing technologies and environments that enhance our understanding and usage. Moreover, combining these different models in the design, implementation, management, and evaluation of e-learning experiences can leverage the strengths of each to create more effective and adaptive online learning environments. By utilizing a comparative and cross-analytical methodology to examine various information processing models and emerging cognitive models, as referenced in 35 Scopus research articles, and by considering the characteristics and empirical evidence of each model, we have pinpointed the key components of a unified model. This model integrates the strengths of each model to create an optimized and adaptive framework for the design of an e-learning system.
