Abstract

This paper delves into the communicative dimension within the English translations of “Legends of the Creation of the Bai Kingdom,” a historical document teeming with the Bai ethnicity’s rich history, religion, and culture. Employing Professor Hu Gengshen’s Eco-translatology theory, it addresses the challenges of translating culturally-laden terms and underscores the significance of maintaining ecological balance in translation. The study elucidates the impact of the communicative dimension on term selection and transformation, ensuring the fidelity and cultural authenticity of translations. By dissecting specific translation cases, the paper accentuates the importance of cultural factors, register styles, and communicative intentions for effective target audience communication. It concludes that eco-translatology’s communicative dimension is indispensable for culturally sensitive and effective translation, facilitating the preservation of the source text's essence and its resonance with the target reader.
