- Abstract
As the ideological enlightenment of cognitive school, the universal grammar of generative school has played an important and direct influence on the cognitive school of second language acquisition. Under the framework of principle and parameter theory, the research on second language acquisition mainly explores four theoretical issues: the accessibility of universal grammar in interlanguage, the initial state of the interlanguage, the resetting of interlanguage parameters, and the steady state of the interlanguage. Based on different attitudes towards these four issues, the second language acquisition theory has derived seven important hypotheses, which led to many empirical studies. This paper attempts to sort out the second language acquisition research under the generative paradigm.
