- Abstract
This study employs a systematic literature review methodology to analyze the current research on second language (L2) discourse markers, focusing on four key dimensions: research topics, participants, data collection methods, and analysis methods. The findings reveal that the topics of related research are mainly divided into two categories: comparative studies between L2 learners and native speakers, and investigations exclusively targeting foreign language learners. Notably, the participants of the study are mainly college L2 learners, with less attention paid to groups of other professions or social backgrounds. Methodologically, corpus-based data collection dominates this research strand, while some non-corpus approaches are also used by a few researchers. All reviewed studies adopt a mixed-methods design with quantitative and qualitative data. Based on the results, this paper puts forward suggestions for future research to help enhance the generalizability and explanatory power.
