Abstract

This paper presents a comprehensive exploration of a practical teaching system grounded in John Dewey’s theory of “Learning by Doing” at the School of Artificial Intelligence, Shenzhen Technology University (SZTU). In response to China’s national strategies for educational digitalization and growing demand for skilled talent, the system aims to cultivate compound, application-oriented innovators capable of addressing real-world challenges, structured around a progressive practical teaching chain. Through Project Practice courses, such as the AIGC-driven virtual dressing program, students engage in full software development lifecycles, supported by a dual-loop quality control mechanism and a dynamic project repository. The “Three-One Strategy” provides policy support for practical teaching. Resources like industry partnerships, innovation labs, and teaching and research centers create an immersive ecosystem. Quantitative data shows significant growth in student awards and patents, while high employability rates underscore the model’s success in cultivating adaptable, innovation-ready professionals. By integrating pedagogical theory with industry needs, this model offers a replicable framework for enhancing engineering education in China.
