Abstract

The present study explores the association among the interpersonal relationship, mathematical self-efficacy, and mathematical academic emotion of Chinese high school students by using the revised mathematics academic emotional questionnaire, family parent–child relationship questionnaire, teacher–student relationship questionnaire, peer relationship questionnaire, and mathematical self-efficacy questionnaire. The survey was conducted in 314 high school students from a middle school in Hebei Province, China. The results showed that a positive teacher–student relationship, positive parent–child relationship, positive peer relationship, and positive mathematics self-efficacy were significantly associated with positive mathematics academic emotion, whereas negative self-efficacy and mathematics academic emotion showed a significant negative correlation. High school students’ mathematics academic emotion was affected by interpersonal relationships, indicating that students’ mathematics academic emotion can be enhanced by improving their interpersonal relationships and self-efficacy The study findings highlight that attention must be paid to the establishment of good teacher–student relationship, parent-child relationship, and peer relationship, which can help students enhance their self-efficacy in mathematics, thereby minimizing the negative impact of their mathematics academic emotion.
