- Abstract
Since the 21st century, the Walt Disney Company has taken a series of acquisition measures to cope with the digital transformation of the global film and television media industry and the impact of streaming media. This study takes Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox as the core case. At the same time, combined with Disney’s mergers and acquisitions of companies such as Pixar, Marvel, and Lucasfilm, analyze their merger and acquisition motivations and resource integration strategies. Research has found that the acquisition of Fox has greatly expanded Disney’s content library and enhanced its IP content strength. At the same time, it directly supported the development of Disney’s streaming media Disney + and expanded its international influence. The motivations for Disney’s mergers and acquisitions include building a super IP ecosystem covering all age groups, maintaining and expanding its market position, and responding to the threats from streaming media such as Netflix. After the merger and acquisition, Disney achieved resource focus by divesting non-core assets, realized financial optimization and enhanced core competitiveness. The inspiration for other media enterprises is to accurately position their core resources and activate the value of IP through cross-media development.
