Abstract

As a systemically important financial institution in the UK, Barclays Bank holds a key position in the global financial system. In the face of macroeconomic fluctuations, the impact of fintech and regulatory compliance pressure, its financial health and strategic sustainability have drawn much attention. Based on the financial data of Barclays Bank and combined with horizontal industry comparisons, this study systematically assesses its profitability, capital adequacy ratio, debt-paying ability and liquidity risk management. By quantitatively analyzing core indicators such as net interest margin, capital buffer and liquidity coverage ratio, its financial advantages and potential risks are revealed. The research found that Barclays Bank’s capital adequacy ratio far exceeded the regulatory requirements, but the conservative capital allocation suppressed shareholder returns. The liquidity coverage ratio is stable, but the exposure to commercial real estate and the reliance on short-term financing increase tail risks. This study provides strategic suggestions for Barclays Bank to optimize capital efficiency and balance risks and returns. Meanwhile, it offers empirical support for regulatory authorities to improve the evaluation framework of systemic financial institutions and for the academic community to explore the transformation path of traditional banks.
