Abstract

This research focuses on the role of alternative media in championing women’s representation, with Adreena Media as a case study. The patriarchal system in Indonesia is still perpetuated by mainstream media by continuing to produce patriarchal narratives that silence women’s voices. Several alternative media outlets exist to provide space for silenced voices. One such alternative media is Adreena Media, a digital media platform that provides a platform for minorities, specifically women, to speak, express themselves, and articulate their life experiences from diverse and critical perspectives. The research employed a qualitative approach and case study method. Primary data were obtained from media analysis, interviews with managers, and several sources from Perempuan Adreena. This research concludes that alternative media for women clearly has a significant place and role in deconstructing gender stereotypes, fostering critical awareness, and strengthening solidarity among women of various identities. Perempuan Adreena, as an alternative media, serves as a means of communication and an advocacy space in the digital public sphere that can strengthen women’s positions. This further emphasizes the importance of developing alternative media that supports women and gender justice.
