Abstract

This study analyzes the implementation of the smart tourism concept in two tourist villages in Blitar Regency, namely Krisik and Tulungrejo Villages. However, although the smart tourism concept is increasingly discussed in tourism literature, studies that highlight the readiness of tourist villages at the local level are still relatively limited. Using qualitative descriptive methods and literature review, this study identifies technological readiness, opportunities, challenges, and strategies for implementing smart tourism in Krisik and Tulungrejo villages. Based on the results of the study, the potential of natural resources and tourist visitation trends in Krisik and Tulungrejo Villages are considered to have great opportunities for adopting smart tourism. However, the findings in this study indicate that the implementation of smart tourism development is still hampered by limitations in information technology infrastructure, low competence of local human resources in terms of digitalization, and the lack of supporting regulations. This research contributes to tourism literature by providing an empirical description of the readiness of Krisik and Tulungrejo tourist villages for digital transformation. The research recommendations include developing an integrated digital platform utilizing applications for booking, payment, and tourist information; strengthening collaboration between the government, community, and private sector; and conducting digital literacy training based on the needs of the local community. Through these systematic steps, Krisik and Tulungrejo villages are expected to become references for sustainable smart tourism village development models based on the use of information technology to reach tourists.
