- Abstract
Related to food availability, one of the livestock commodities that was very supportive was local beef cattle developed in Minahasa Regency. Local beef cattle in this case were developed traditionally. Traditional maintenance systems were generally carried out on a small scale. The problem was how far the local beef cattle development strategy was in the area. Development strategies were needed to encourage conventional beef cattle farming. The purpose of this study was to analyze the local beef cattle development strategy in Minahasa Regency. The research method was a survey with a purposive sampling method. Respondents were selected using simple random sampling, totaling 60 farmers. The data analysis used was descriptive with a SWOT analysis approach. The results showed that Minahasa Regency had prospects and opportunities because it was a local beef cattle base area. This was supported by the potential carrying capacity of the land and the RC ratio value was greater than one. The challenge was that land use and the introduction of IB technology had not been optimal. The conclusion, strategy was analyzed based on internal factors with a revenue cost ratio greater than one and external factors of farmers that indicate a promising market potential. The strategy needed was an aggressive strategy which was a strategy that supports farmers in maximizing the strengths and opportunities that exist for the continuity and sustainability of beef cattle. The suggestion, is that to increase the productivity of local beef cattle, it is necessary to optimize forage land and implement institutional strengthening for market access.
