- Abstract
This study aims to explore the potential of Hindu-Buddhist temple reliefs in East Java as batik motifs based on the values of tolerance and harmony. The research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data collection techniques include literature study, observation, interviews, and documentation. The research focuses on four temples in East Java: Penataran Temple, Jawi Temple, Jago Temple, and Jabung Temple. These temples reflect noble values, namely tolerance and harmony between religious communities Hindu and Buddhist followers in the past within the archipelago. The results of the study show that the four temples possess Hindu-Buddhist elements that represent religious tolerance and harmony. These values are then developed into batik motifs. The batik motifs are applied to several products such as clothing, tote bags, mugs, and pins. The resulting batik motifs are not only aesthetically valuable but also contain moral and commercial value. These batik motifs are expected to serve as a means of preserving the noble values of the Indonesian nation for the younger generation, while also providing economic benefits to the community.
