- Abstract
Hyperpigmentation can be treated using topical, systemic, or procedural approaches. Eudrilus eugeniae earthworms, abundant in Indonesia, have potential skin benefits, including blemish reduction and skin tightening. This study evaluated the effect of E. eugeniae coelomic fluid on hyperpigmentation in UVB-exposed Wistar rats. Thirty rats were randomized into control (distilled water), standard (Emina Aloe Vera Face Mist), and treatment (coelomic fluid) groups for 21 days, followed by UVB exposure (311 nm). Histological analysis assessed melanin content and epidermal thickness. Melanin levels were comparable across groups (<40). A significant difference in epidermal thickness was observed only between the control and standard groups (p = 0.007), with no significant difference involving the coelomic fluid group (p > 0.05). The coelomic fluid did not significantly affect pigmentation or epidermal thickness, suggesting higher concentrations may be needed.
