Abstract

When blood sugar levels drop to a certain point, cells break down glycogen into glucose to produce energy. If the pancreas does not produce enough insulin, or if the body’s cells do not respond well to the insulin it produces, diabetes can develop. This research was conducted to see how the effectiveness test of nanoemulsion preparation of lemongrass extract (Cymbopogon citratus L.) through histopathological observation of the pancreas of diabetic rats. With a sample of 20 Wistar rats divided into five groups, namely positive and negative control groups, and treatment groups 1, 2, and 3. The results show that the extract contains active compounds such as citral, geraniol, myrcene, and flavonoids, which have antihyperglycemic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and hepatoprotective effects. It was effective in reducing blood glucose levels in rats with diabetes mellitus and improving the morphological structure of the rat pancreas, as seen from the histopathological images of the pancreatic tissue by observing the profile of β cells in the islets of Langerhans.
