Abstract

Competencies of teachers, including Early Childhood Education (ECE) teachers’ competencies according to the Decree of the Minister of National Education of Indonesia No. 16, Year 2007 are divided into four categories: Pedagogical Competence (Academic), Personality Competence, Social Competence (Community), and Professional Competence. This research aims to measure the improvement of cognitive, affective, and motor skills of ECE teachers as part of their pedagogical competence in designing and implementing learning processes for young children. By using Bloom’s (1956) taxonomy, cognitive stimulation for teachers can be provided through the use of English in Pop-Up books, attitudes and responses as affective assessment, and physical activities for motor skills development. The process of creating Pop-Up books in English has been proven to enhance the cognitive, affective, and motor skills of ECE teachers. This study employed a mixed-method approach with a sequential exploratory design involving 21 ECE teachers in Jepara, Central Java. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study revealed that the three assessment aspects according to Bloom’s taxonomy—cognitive, affective, and motor skills of ECE teachers—showed improvement based on paired T-Test analysis. Improvement in these three aspects supports their pedagogical competence, particularly in executing the learning process. Knowing the importance of the role of ECE teachers, the results suggest that they are required to possess high professionalism in carrying out their duties and a willingness to strive towards continuous improvement.
