Abstract

Public speaking is an important skill in analyzing and practicing students as they go towards universities and their careers. However, public speaking is greatly influenced by principles associated with psychology aspect, which include anxiety and self-efficacy. This quantitative research aimed to determine the relationship between self-efficacy and lecturer’s assertive behavior with Japanese language anxiety experienced by students. This study employed a quantitative approach with a correlation design. Twenty-one students in intermediate level Japanese Language were subjects. The data in this study were analyzed using SPSS software, where Pearson Product Moment Formula, Kendall’s Correlation Coefficient formula, and Multiple Linear Regression Formula were also employed. The data for this study was gathered using questionnaires and tests as instruments. The results of the data analysis also showed that there is a negative relation between self-efficacy and anxiety about speaking a Japanese language in public. The higher the self-efficacy of students, the lower the level of speaking anxiety when using a Japanese language (Japanese) in public, and vice versa, the lower the self-efficacy of students, the higher their speaking anxiety when using a Japanese language (Japanese) in public. It can be concluded that self-efficacy influences the anxiety of speaking a Japanese language in public. The result also showed that the lecturer’s assertive behavior significantly contributed to Japanese language anxiety.
