Abstract

Early literacy should be developed by educators for children desiring to enter the world of education. Early literacy aims to enhance learning readiness, to develop language skills, and to promote interest in reading. The BCCT (Beyond Centers and Circle Time) method is a remarkable innovation to actively engage children in learning activities. Teachers and students can collaborate on creating language skills through the BCCT method. The study used qualitative methods with descriptive analysis. The data comes from field observations, questionnaires filled in by 43 teachers of early childhood education in Bandung Raya districts, and library studies of some relevant scientific works. Previously, research subjects had given live insight into the BCCT method through seminars and training activities conducted by the research team. The result indicates that the BCCT method was suitable for teaching early literacy in terms of religion, social, motor, language, literature, and art. However, in some schools, the BCCT method cannot be fully implemented due to a lack of familiarity among teachers, insufficient tools and infrastructure, and suboptimal parental involvement. The successful implementation of the BCCT method can significantly enhance language learning by providing an engaging and interactive environment where children can develop their literacy skills through a variety of activities. This approach fosters not only language acquisition but also the overall development of communication abilities, creativity, and critical thinking in young learners.
