- Abstract
Video clips have been part of the music industry since the 1980’s, they evolved, generating stories and adopting diverse narratives, among which we have those that included representations of women. Therefore, this paper is an analysis of the representation and presence of women in salsa music videos between the 1980s and 2010s. Based on a qualitative approach with an interpretative paradigm, a content analysis of ten analyzed video clips from each decade was proposed. The narrative, discourse elements, influences and representation of women in the audiovisual content were analyzed. Thus, we can see how this presence and representation has evolved and how the last two decades show greater gender equity to the detriment of the first two. Also, how the representation of women has become more empowered and women take a more active role in the narrative of these video clips.
