- Abstract
This research establishes an analysis of citizen perception on the use of digital tools such as text messaging tools (SMS) in the prevention of school dropout in public universities in southeastern Mexico, with emphasis on the Universidad Juárez Autónoma de Tabasco (UJAT). The results obtained from an instrument published via internet to a population of 2,418 citizens of the state of Tabasco, collected opinions on the effectiveness, accessibility and safety of these technologies in educational contexts. The analysis shows a favorable trend in the use of this type of communication tools and instruments to strengthen the link between the university, students and families, especially in high impact communities with low access to the Internet. In addition, needs were identified to adapt text messages to the sociocultural and linguistic contexts of the region. The findings underscore the importance of integrating inclusive digital strategies as part of an educational public policy supported by the university’s institutional plan, which promotes digital literacy and equity in school retention at the higher education level.
