- Abstract
In today’s world of entertainment, Latin American cinematography encompasses a casual audience in pursuit of recreational purposes as a way to clear the mind of duties or work. Audiovisual production companies know and study their audience to offer them what they need, but nevertheless, there are others who apply the audiovisual media as a tool to tell a story rich in historical and political content to raise awareness through the act of preserving the memory of the consequences of a country’s politics. Through the dramatic conflict within the audiovisual narrative of the feature film “1976”, we seek to investigate the representation of the actions of politicians during the Chilean military dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet. This article seeks to determine the political value of the dictatorship in the extreme right-wing opposition exercised towards the leftist population, as well as its repercussions and human rights violations towards the repressed at a national level, which were projected in Manuela Martelli’s film through the course of the conflict that moves the plot of her story.
