Abstract

Public institutions of higher education have a fundamental social commitment, which goes beyond the training of professionals, by becoming actively involved in addressing the problems of the environment. Together with the substantive functions of teaching, research and dissemination of culture, the link with society has become increasingly important as a strategic axis to contribute to local and regional development. In this context, several institutions of higher education promote linkage programs aimed at strengthening the capacities of small producers through collaborative projects. This research documents a successful case derived from a community entrepreneurship project, developed with the joint participation of professors, researchers and students from different disciplines, whose objective was to provide technical, commercial and organizational support to local producers. The results demonstrate that social linkage not only strengthens the relevance and social impact of higher education institutions, but also improves the effectiveness of public policies and enriches the training processes of students through practical experiences with high social value.
