- Abstract
Breast cancer remains one of the leading causes of death among women in Peru, with a notable increase in young women in particular, who often present more aggressive tumor characteristics. Despite multiple preventive campaigns, there are communication barriers that limit women’s ability to access and seek reception and search for information, hindering health literacy. Therefore, through a qualitative methodology, in-depth interviews were conducted with female university students who indicated their level of assessment towards the main sources of information on breast cancer. Participants frequently found very technical terminology, confusing or outdated content yet expressed a high valuation towards the specialized medical source. On the other hand, a behavioral communication barrier identified in the interviewees was the fear of seeking or receiving information due to anxiety driven by the possibility of having the disease. Therefore, the report seeks to use its findings to contribute to the design of future prevention communication campaigns aimed at young women.
