Abstract

The role of education, in particular mathematics education, needs to be reinterpreted in light of complicated global challenges like social inequality, climate change, and environmental degradation in order to promote sustain-able futures. This paper explores the ways in which curriculum, pedagogy, teacher preparation, language, modelling, and technology can be practiced and imagined more holistically. It promotes a paradigm change in mathematics education from abstract, decontextualized instruction to a problem-oriented, context-sensitive, and sustainability-based approach. We suggest practical adjustments to mathematics curricula and pedagogy based on inter-national research and Indian case studies, emphasizing how interdisciplinary learning, real-world applications, and critical thinking can empower students as agents of change.
