- Abstract
This study explores the use of metaphors in the naming of human diseases in the Indonesian language. By examining common disease names and their metaphorical meanings, this research identifies patterns in how Indonesians conceptualize illnesses through metaphorical frameworks. The findings reveal that disease names often draw from animal and plant elements, symbolically representing symptoms, causes, or effects of diseases. These metaphors not only simplify complex medical conditions but also provide insights into societal perceptions of health, illness, and the human body. Understanding these metaphorical constructions enriches our comprehension of the interplay between language and health discourse in Indonesian society.
