- Abstract
As a maritime region, the archipelago has great potential for its maritime wealth, especially the fisheries sector, which stimulates the birth of fishing settlements around the waters in the form of houses on stilts with patterns and shapes of houses and supporting facilities adapted to their environment.
The research carried out in Hamlet 1 of Bilo Village, Ogodeide District, Toli-toli Regency aims to reveal the local wisdom of settlers, the majority of whom work as fishermen, behind the existence of their settlements so that they can survive amidst climate change and various other natural challenges. Although some houses stand firmly on the open sea, some are on land and some at sea, or all of them are on land, with different challenges. but it still stands strong and functional to this day according to its users’ purposes.
In order to reveal the local wisdom of fishing settlements in Boilo village, investigation through this research was carried out not only at the empirical level, but also at the empirical and ethical level. Therefore, the appropriate paradigm for this research uses qualitative research methods, which involve researchers directly as the main instrument, with the hope of being able to reveal in-depth information, data and facts about the local wisdom behind the existence of the Dusun 1 Bilo Village fishing settlement. The benchmarks in this research are the environmental arrangement, facilities and shape of the residence.
