Abstract

Many factors influence the strength of concrete, including the quality of the materials and admixtures used, the composition of the materials, the method of manufacture and curing. Therefore to achieve the design strength of concrete, it is necessary to conduct aggregate inspection, use suitable admixtures, determine the composition of the materials through the mixture design, maintain the quality of the work and carry out curing until the optimum concrete compressive strength is achieved. The utilize of coal as fossil fuels is still used in the Anggrek PLTU to fulfill electricity demands in Gorontalo Province. The use of this fuel produces a very large amount of fly ash waste. Utilization of waste needs to be continued to be carried out to reduce the negative impact on the environment, one of which is to improve the strength of concrete. This study aims to analyze the right composition of materials, especially the percentage of fine aggregate to coarse aggregate. This study also evaluated the use of fly ash in the concrete mixture, both as a cement substitute and as an additive. The composition of the materials that produced the best mixture in this study was at a percentage of 40% sand and 60% crushed stone. Meanwhile, the use of fly ash that produces the most optimum results is when fly ash is used as much as 5% of the weight of cement as an additive.
