- Abstract
This research aims to explore the knowledge of the use of plants as Medicine and explore the current problems of their sustainability in Bener Meriah Regency. Through interviews and observations, it was found that the threat came from three main factors: structural, cultural, and ecological. Structural factors include the lack of role of traditional and village leaders in preserving knowledge and the centralization of expertise among shamans. Cultural factors include generational shifts, lower economic values, gender roles, and lifestyle changes. Meanwhile, ecological factors include changes in land use and the use of pesticides. The loss of knowledge and the existence of these medicinal plants has the potential to threaten the sustainability of traditional Medicine, as well as reduce biodiversity.
