Abstract

This research aims to explore the folklore found in tourist attractions related to Sisingamangaraja in Baktiraja Sub-district. Specifically, the research seeks to uncover the substance of the stories at several tourist sites, such as Tombak Sulu-Sulu, Istana Raja Sisingamangaraja, Siungkap-ungkapon Stone, Hundul-Hundulan Stone, and Hariara Tungkot. Furthermore, the research sought to analyze the values contained in these folktales. The research was conducted by applying a qualitative method with a folkloric approach. It was analyzed by applying the stages of analysis, including classificatory categories, permanent form, evolving form, and form of discourse. The results showed that the folktales related to Sisingamangaraja became the identity of the Toba Batak community in Baktiraja District and reflected distinctive cultural values, such as hope, struggle, and hero’s journey. Folktales related to Sisingamangaraja emphasize the importance of traditional knowledge and cultural heritage that reflect the values of the community’s beliefs about leadership and prosperity. The folklore can also be applied in the development of folklore-based tourism in Baktiraja District, Humbang Hasundutan Regency.
