- Abstract
This study aims to map flood-prone areas in Tanjung Balai City using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to identify high-risk areas. The analysis was conducted using six main parameters: rainfall, soil type, slope gradient, land elevation, land use, and distance from rivers. The analysis results indicate that areas with high flood susceptibility are found in regions with low elevation, flat topography, close proximity to the Asahan and Silau Rivers, and covered by settlements or open land with alluvial soil types. Coastal areas are more vulnerable to tidal floods and upstream overflow. This flood risk map is expected to serve as a foundation for the government in planning mitigation measures, spatial planning, and enhancing community preparedness against flooding.
