Abstract

This research aims to analyze the relationship between population growth, population density, and accessibility to land use changes in Medan City. The location covers 21 sub-districts in Medan City. This research uses a quantitative approach. Multiple linear regression is used to analyze the relationship between population growth, population density, and accessibility to land use changes in Medan City. The research results show growth in the 2002-2012 period; the population is relatively high in 21 sub-districts in Medan City. The average population growth reached 6-7% in each sub-district, so that for Medan City during that period, the growth rate reached 7% (classified as high). Then, in the 2012-2022 period, the population growth rate began to be lower compared to the previous 10 years, with the growth rate of Medan City only 2.11% (classified as high). The increase in population density in Medan City in the 2002-2012 period reached 101.33%.

Meanwhile, for the 2012-2022 period, population density increased by 23.44%. Based on the results of multiple linear regression, it was found that population growth (X1) and population density (X2) had a positive effect on land use change. On the other hand, accessibility (X3) had a negative effect on changes in land use. The relative contribution values that influence land use changes in Medan City are accessibility 53.37%, population density 34.11% and population growth 12.32%.
