- Abstract
This study aims to develop instructional media in the form of historical animated videos using the Powtoon application, focusing on the topic of the Japanese occupation of Indonesia for 11th-grade high school students. The research followed a Research and Development (R&D) approach with the ADDIE model, which consists of five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The participants were 34 11th-grade students at SMA Negeri 15 Medan. The product was validated by both subject matter experts and media experts, and trials were conducted in small and large groups. Data were collected through questionnaires using a Likert scale to capture the perceptions of validators and student participants. The analysis technique used was descriptive quantitative. These techniques were implemented as a way of processing data from the validation results of subject matter and design experts, media experts, and student responses. Based on the subject matter expert’s assessment, a percentage score of 83% (Very Appropriate) was obtained. The expert evaluation resulted in a score of 89% (Highly Appropriate), indicating that the media was deemed suitable for use as a learning tool. In the small-group trial, student responses reached 80% (Highly Appropriate), while the large-group trial produced a score of 87% (Highly Appropriate). These findings suggest that the Powtoon-based animated video is appropriate and effective as an alternative instructional medium for teaching history.
