- Abstract
Plastic pollution is one of the biggest environmental challenges we face today, wreaking havoc on ecosystems across the globe. This study aims to investigate a practical application of recycled plastic, showing its original use as alternative sustainable material for moving bed filter media in aquarium filtration systems. The study will assess recycled plastic media improvements water quality, biogren or bio filtration and sustainability of improved environmental footprint. The physical properties, durability, functionality of the media and its potential to promote growth of beneficial bacteria, which can decompose waste were determined by laboratory tests. Findings show that utilizing recycled plastic media as aquarium filter media offers a low-cost and sustainable approach for effective maintenance of aquarium ecosystems, while also playing a role in solving the worldwide challenge with plastics waste. Abstract: Integration of waste management and environmental sustainability into practical applications in aquaculture systems is still an unresolved challenge, despite its immense importance.
